Bob Mintzer in C-U?
UPDATE: This is apparently a no-go due to funding. Sorry for the false alarm.
Bob Mintzer's website shows that he is scheduled to be on the UIUC campus on December 5th and 6th. This is the first I've heard of it, so I'm not sure what's in the offing, but I'll post a note here shortly when I've gotten news from Chip McNeill.
Bob Mintzer is a highly respected saxophonist and composer/arranger. He is best known as a performer for his work with the Yellowjackets and Jaco Pastorious's Word of Mouth Band.

Man, that is awesome! I will have to block stuff out to see that. I am a big fan of Mintzer, especially his Bass Clarinet playing. He is really fluent on the Bass Clarinet if you haven't seen him play that before.
Apparently it's a no-go. Funding fell through or something. Sorry about the false alarm.
Chip says they're trying to get him in during the Spring.
There's a great video now out on DVD of Mintzer playing some bass clarinet (tho mostly tenor sax) with Jaco's Word of Mouth quintet. Definitely worth checking out.
That's too bad. Oh well, thanks for mentioning it.
Actually I believe I've seen that video although it was a couple years ago. Doesn't he play "Donna Lee" on Bass Clarinet? That's a technical enough tune to play on any instrument, let alone the Bass Clarinet. But Bob Minzter does it without a hitch.
That's the one. It was released on DVD a few months ago.
